Does Your Thinking Affect Your Outcome?

Now there’s a question to ponder on. Could it be possible that your thinking can determine your circumstances? As someone who collects stories I believe that I can stake the claim that your frame of thought has the power to decide outcome! I will share Jorge’s story and you decide.

Jorge was a strong vibrant energetic man. With only a six grade education which he would not allow determine his success. He was an extremely successful business man. He had a knack for starting up businesses in up and coming prime areas building up a good clientele then in about two years he would sell the business for 2- times what he originally paid. He was an amazing business man!

One day Jorge noticed that his health was weakening he decided he would go to the doctor and get a full check up. A few days later he was called in for the results. It was cancer! He needed surgery immediately. After four consecutive surgeries we were informed that at best he had one year to live but worst case scenario 6 months. Jorge was an immigrant who spoke very little English but he understood the word ‘cancer’ and he understood the words ‘6 months to live’. The doctor was convinced that Jorge did not understand what he said because his affect never changed, he kept a bright and steady smile throughout the conversation.

When the doctor made the attempt to explain Jorge abruptly stopped him and through his interpreter said “I know what he said. I also know he is NOT God, therefore, he cannot determine when I am going to die. I am certain that with a few alterations my health will improve. Jorge never became anxious nor did he ever lose sleep over this prognosis. He was certain that with several changes in his diet he would survive this dreadful disease. Jorge lived 26 years past that June in 1975. And when he died in 1999, he did not die of cancer.

It can be said that Jorge ‘had a strong will to live’, but don’t we all? It can also be said it was possible he was misdiagnosed. I believe the day he was given that prognosis he determined in his mind that he would not receive this fact into his life. His faith grew but so did his understanding. He knew there were changes he had to make in his life such as 1) not succumbing to his disease, 2) be steadfast in his faith in God, 3) to find the a nutritionist that would help him make the changes necessary to build him back to health.

It is not solely mind over matter. It is about acknowledging your present state, pulling from your faith, taking personal responsibility, and identifying a participant that will guide you in making the change. It is about understanding, believing, soliciting partnership and reaching destination, always positive always focused.

To Your Success,
