The reality is that being your own boss and being productive in a home-based business is not always a simple task. Home-based business is ideal for obtaining financial freedom but there are also some drawbacks. One of the drawbacks is that mentally we are programmed to have parameters (guidelines) on how we are to perform our job duties. The second is that left to our own devises we rarely know how to perform work duties without those stringent guidelines. As much as we despise the arrest on our creative abilities, when left on our own to perform we become as deer’s in head lights. The mental creativity freezes resulting in becoming frustrated with the poor results in our productivity. This can be settled with just a few guidelines. Here are some simple guidelines which will assist in organizing and becoming extremely productive in your home-based business.

You want to begin with a list of the tasks you want to tackle that week. Be realistic when formulating this list. Do not list100 things to do in one week knowing full well it’s impossible to complete. If you do this will only set you up for a feeling of failure and you won’t celebrate your successes. Once your list is complete you will follow this prescription for success in your productivity:

1) Clear your mind from clutter and focus on the task
2) Meditate and relax your mind
3) Clear the mess from your work space
4) Prior to beginning your project ensure the tools needed are readily available
5) Designate a time frame for each assignment
6) Do not deviate from the task
7) Do not allow distractions
8) Have a clear and organized plan for your project

1 – You need to release your mind from clutter. Oftentimes we are bombarded with thoughts and things that have no relevance to the task on hand. Whether that is listening to a lecture or attempting to write an article. We busy ourselves with thoughts and worries, list of tasks undone and we don’t concentrate the task on hand.

2 – Prior to commencing your tasks each morning take the time to pray and meditate. Taking time to settle your mind first thing in the morning is the best way to organize your thoughts and devise a clear and concise plan for your day. Prayer and meditation renews you spiritually and mentally to address any and all obstacles that may attempt to distract your mind.

3 – Have all of your tools for your project readily available prior to starting the assignment. Whether the task is building a model plane or writing a song you must have all of your tools on hand. Having everything available to you when you need it is the best way to keep you and your thoughts flowing without interruption.

4 – Clear all of the clutter from your surrounding area. Clear the desk/work table of anything that is not directly a part of the job. This will make it easier for you to find what you need when you need it.

5 – Designate a time frame for each assignment. You can spend one hour writing, another hour responding to email, 30 minutes returning phone calls etc. You MUST stick to the time frame you allocated.

6 – Once you have began the task do not stop until it is complete. This does not mean that you must complete the model plane or writing your article, book etc. What this means is that whatever you set out to do, you complete that day whether one paragraph or one chapter.

7 – Do not allow distractions such as phone calls, emails, Skype, Social Networks or messages keep you from your flow of concentration. Set out a time for the calls, emails and Skyping this way you will not break your flow and you will complete the task in a timely fashion without becoming frustrated.

8 – Have a clear and organized plan for your project. Whatever project you set out to do divide the project into parts and reward yourself for the progress. That may be taking a break or walk always reward yourself for your progress. Once you have completed that part/portion of the project you can go to the next task.

Once you have followed these guidelines and with all your efforts you have not completed your tasks do not become disappointed. Whatever has not been completed by the end of the day can added to the following work day’s To Do schedule. Add it to the top of the list for completion. If you follow this guideline you will be a successful home-based business owner. Remember, you are your boss now and you are the only one that can hold your feet to the fire to be productive in your home-based business.

To Your Success,
